FASD Family Support Program

The FASD Family Support Program offers individualized support to families living with FASD along with opportunities to gather, connect and share lived experiences. This program has a goal of empowering healthy families and healthy communities.

Each month Family Support Group meetings are held in Saskatoon. The meetings are meant to offer parents and caregivers a chance to gather. By talking about some of the strengths and struggles of living with FASD, parents will gain a sense of connection, increase their knowledge and learn new strategies. The meetings will include topics like:

  • discussing the range of disabilities linked with FASD
  • learning about secondary issues like problems at school, trouble with the law and addictions
  • gaining the skills needed to advocate for services and support
  • recognizing the importance of self-care for parents and caregivers

Guest speakers from the community will also come in to talk about important issues like assessment and diagnosis or justice. With a blend of opportunities for learning, getting to know other parents and gaining practical strategies for daily life, the Family Support Meetings are an answer to the community’s call for support.

One-to-One Support in Saskatoon

Through the program, Family Support Workers provide one-on-one assistance to Saskatoon and area families. Every family has unique needs and requires support to meet those needs. Therefore, we strive to offer integrated support that not only connects those living with FASD with the Network, but also with the services in the broader community.

Families may seek individualized guidance to access mental health, addictions, counseling or mentoring services. One-on-one support may also serve to assist families navigating legal processes, diagnosis and assessment, school systems, income support or accessing the Cognitive Disabilities Strategy. Stepping alongside families can make a big difference in daily lives.
